On Sunday evening, he took her out on the pretext of going to a restaurant in Chaital, under Minakhan PS,” an investigating officer said.Police said two of Dewan’s friends, identified as Habibullah Sardar and Mizanur Molla, both residents of Minakhan, were allegedly waiting for them there. “After having food together, the three men allegedly forcibly took the woman to an isolated place and gang-raped her,” the survivor said in her complaint.Acting on the complaint, police arrested Dewan and Sardar from Jibantala late on Sunday. A search is on for Molla. The two arrested men were on Monday produced before the Basirhat subdivisional court, which remanded them in police custody for six days. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime and the relationship between the woman and the accused.“A gang-rape case under Section 70 BNS has been registered. The duo is being interrogated and a raid is on to nab the other accused,” a senior officer of Basirhat District police said. The incident comes close on the heels of the recovery of a teenage girl’s mutilated body from a neighbour’s house at Gaighata on Oct 25. The family alleged that she had been raped and murdered. Police arrested Prahlad Das, a distant relative of the family, in connection with the case.During the subsequent reconstruction of the crime, police claimed that Prahlad snatched a service revolver and opened fire at the police team while attempting to escape. Police allegedly retaliated in self-defence, leaving Prahlad fatally injured.
