Kolkata: An FIR has been lodged against Sandipan Banerjee, president of Forum for Durgotsav – one of the two umbrella organisations of Durga Puja committees in Kolkata – in the alleged Puja pass scam case in which former state minister Indranil Sen has been arrested. Banerjee is also the most recognised face of the Behala Natun Dal puja.The FIR was filed by Behala cops based on a complaint by Jaydeep Mukherjee, the primary whistleblower in the alleged pass scam. According to the complainant, he was allegedly confronted, abused and threatened at the Behala puja pandal in the early hours of Oct 21 (Dashami).Mukherjee alleged that Banerjee and his associates aggressively confronted him regarding his role in the scam case probe. The group questioned why he had named Sen and Dhrubajyoti Bose, the face behind Tala Prottay, in his statements. He was allegedly threatened and insulted.When contacted, Banerjee denied wrongdoing, claiming he had been framed. Sources close to Banerjee — also the treasurer of Mohun Bagan and one of the faces of Behala Classical Music Festival — stated that he is deeply pained.
